Socks..NSSKAL

hmm..when virtual friends from the YOP ravelry group started talking socks..  I knew I had to attempt them..again *sigh*

I tried them last year and after several false starts actually completed a cuff...  yeah!  My problems..outside of never working with dpn's, never working with sock weight fiber, and never reading a sock pattern.. was...dropping an occasional stitch..and not being able to correct it..so, after many attempts and never making it past the cuff...  I put the project in the time out chair in the corner and told myself I'd dig them out "in the new year"..

January passed..and now with this NSSKAL group..I find myself inspired to try again..  My goal till the end of February is to complete 1 sock...crap I'll be happy if I get past the cuff...in reality..I'll be happy to get past the second row!  Here goes..

I attempt the pattern 5 times in a sitting..after that I'm ready to poke someone with a dpn.

After some kind suggestions..I found a pattern using
a 3 dpn knit as opposed to the 4 I was trying to manage..
and it actually went much better...by my 5th attempt I was much more comfortable with the needles and didn't feel like murder when I did screw up!

Hopefully, by this time next week.. I may have a cuff done..  err..maybe not..  but I'm going to try!

well..If we survive the blizzard forecast for this weekend.. 16-24 inches of snow, starting tomorrow through sunday..

any and all help, suggestions, and advice for sock knitting is greatly appreciated!

  2. Well done for persevering!! I find the start of the sock so tricky as the needles keep getting in the way of each other and theres no weight to pull the knitting out the way. But keep going it does get easier!! And they are so comfy to wear!!

  3. It'll get better...I only started knitting last (2011) summer...and the main reason was socks..I was very comfortable with just crocheting, but really wanted to make socks....so....I perservered and have now made socks....and now have 5 pairs on the needles....

  4. I'm in awe of anyone that can knit socks on dpns regardless of whether or not they finish.

don't let it get you down, and if you do there are always socks without heels, toe ups, magic loop, two circulars, after though heels... so many different ways to knit socks you can try a new method until you succeed

  5. Keep going and ask on the Ravelry group if you need specific help. Personally I find magic loop MUCH easier than DPNs so if you really can't get on with the DPs, all is not lost - there are plenty more options to try. Don't give up xxx
