YOP2013

I thought I would have a lot to say about my YOP projects.. hmm.. well, err.. perhaps a pictorial?

This is how I spent a good portion of the week...

Curled up with the Jim.  Every time I got up, Jim stole the heating pad.

Damn cat.

I really wanted to have my sweater all seamed up and finished.  I wasted way to much time watching video's and reading articles about the best way to finish this..  I just finally did it..well, sorta...

I got the neckline done...that required a new skill...picking up and knitting stitches..  The neckline is fine...but I have issues with nice, neat, bind off stitches.  I am going to have to practice a bit more to get them even before I try another neckline!

Attaching the sleeves was next...

and this is as far as I got...completely stumped on how to attach these...again..I just have to "DO IT" and stop thinking about it..If it is not right...the world will not end, the sky will not fall...I will just try again...

I really wanted to start socks...Everyone is joining the sock KAL hosted by cwtch and I wanted too...  but I CANNOT stand starting a new project while I have WIP's..

but I did anyway...I got this far..

really nice yarn and needles..now to find an easy pattern...this will be my 1st pair..

Cool find at the thrift store..  old needles...
they original cost was 85 cents...!

I love finding old knitting supplies..most of my needles are from the thrift store.

I also tried working with crochet thread for the 1st time..again..I have a terrible time anticipating these projects as being ridiculously hard..things I will probably fail at...only to discover..meh..not so bad.  I was making snowflakes and finished the

wreath in time to present it to my wonderful MIL for her birthday yesterday...

balls of left over yarn, crochet snowflakes, attach to a frame..and ta dah!

Outside of YOP stuff..We had a couple of inches of snow, it all melted as the temperature soared to 60 degrees on thursday..  now it has been snowing for 2 days..not heavy, nice light and fluffy..and despite the warm temp..we are still iced in!

Wishing all my sista's at the YOP, and everyone else for that matter..a safe and happy week!

Hopefully, I'll feel better and get back to full steam by the next update..

  1. A lot of our thrift stores won't stock needles because they're "dangerous". Mostly I find unknown fiber yarn at thrift shops, and usually not very nice stuff.

Pretty sock yarn. There are lots of easy patterns to start with - like Monkey socks, or No Purl Monkeys or Tidal Waves...

  2. Congrats on getting your MIL's gift done on time. It turned out really cute! I've never thought to check 2nd hand store for knitting supplies, thanks for the idea will give it a go. Your sweater is looking awesome. I've not yet tried my hand at picking up stitches, so glad to hear that went well for you...gives me a bit of a nudge.

  3. I am so sorry you have been feeling poorly--I hope this week is much, much better for you. Your post is full of lovely stuff even though you were down a bit--As far as your sweater goes...hmmm...you are ahead of the game compared to me as I have barely ever needed to pick up stitches and knit (I tend to avoid those patterns! ;) ) Do you have a yarn store somewhat close to you who could help you with the joining and seaming? I know you live way out there so realize this might not be a possibility for you.
I love your old needles and have a hankering to go look around my thrift store for some stuff! Can you believe 85 cents?? I wonder what year they are from?
Oh, and you cat! He cracks me up--and I must say that my cat would do the same thing--he sits and stares at me if I am sitting in a chair he wants--then when I get up, he jumps in! Did you knit the snowflakes or crochet? I have always wanted to be able to make those and they look great on your wreath--
It looks like your socks are hanging out in the same spot mine are---maybe later, right?
    Have a great week!

  4. Forgot to mention--I wanted the 49'rs to win yesterday too--I can't stand the Ravens nor Ray Lewis! But, I have to say that our Seahawks would have played 100% better than San Fransisco did and they should have been there!! ;) Oh well---on to baseball but I am not a fan of our Mariners to much so I will spend the season cheering my son on while he plays for a high school city team.

  5. Good luck with your first knit socks! I abandoned mine last year and am back to crochet socks, but I hear it is easier to knit them on DPNs.
